Dr. Mark J. Greeven is a Chinese-speaking Dutch professor of innovation and strategy at IMD Business School in Switzerland and former faculty at Zhejiang University, China’s top academic institution. He is the author of Pioneers, Hidden Champions, Changemakers, and Underdogs (MIT Press, 2019) and Business Ecosystems in China (Routledge, 2017). Mark is on the “2017 Thinkers50 Radar list of 30 next generation business thinkers”, an annual ranking that the Financial Times deemed the “Oscars of Management Thinking”.
Mark’s research deals with innovation and entrepreneurship in China. Despite an institutional environment characterized by high levels of uncertainty, innovation thrives even in the technology-based sector. The research asks for explanations of how innovative capabilities are developed in such an adverse institutional environment. Furthermore, he explores the strategies of Chinese firms going abroad and cooperation with foreign firms. Findings of his research are published in international academic journals, books, newspapers such as The Financial Times.
